FIT/FIP Prices from FY2026 Set: No Support for Ground-Mounted Commercial Solar from FY2027The price for selling solar power is set: ground-mounted type ends next year
On March 19, 2026, METI announced renewable energy purchase prices from FY2026. For commercial solar (ground-mounted), the FY2026 price is JPY 9.9 for 10 kW to under 50 kW and JPY 9.6 for 50 kW or more (not subject to tender); both are outside support from FY2027. Rooftop (10 kW or more) and residential (under 10 kW) continue under the initial investment support scheme.
Key points
- Commercial solar (ground-mounted), FY2026: JPY 9.9 per kWh for 10 kW to under 50 kW, JPY 9.6 for 50 kW or more (not subject to tender). Both are excluded from support from FY2027
- Commercial solar (rooftop), 10 kW or more: initial investment support scheme. When introduced in the second half of FY2025 the prices were JPY 19 (up to year 5) and JPY 8.3 (years 6 to 20)
- Residential (under 10 kW) is also under the initial investment support scheme: JPY 24 (up to year 4) and JPY 8.3 (years 5 to 10) when introduced
- For the tender category (FIP-certified projects of 250 kW or more; rooftop is exempt), the FY2026 price is decided by tender
What to do in practice
- If you plan ground-mounted commercial solar for power sales, review the profit plan on the premise that FIT/FIP support is not available from FY2027
- Reflect the price shape of rooftop projects (high for the first 5 years, lower from year 6) in the profit plan
The government announced the price at which power companies buy solar electricity (for FY2026). From FY2027, ground-mounted systems will no longer be covered by the national buying system. For rooftop systems, a scheme with a higher price in the first few years continues.
Points
- For FY2026, ground-mounted solar is bought at JPY 9.9 per kWh (smaller) and JPY 9.6 (larger)
- From FY2027, the ground-mounted type is outside the national buying system
- Rooftop systems get a higher price (JPY 19) for the first 5 years, then JPY 8.3
What the words mean
- Purchase price
- The price a power company pays, at a fixed rate, for electricity made by solar and similar sources
- kWh (kilowatt-hour)
- A unit that measures the amount of electricity
